Lifted

Anecdote

I had cause to go to the university library last week, and discovered that the paternoster lift now has red and green lights to people who aren't colour-blind when it's safe to get in and out.

Students in the past didn't need to be told when it was safe to get in or out of the lifts, and neither did visitors. Have people today become so used to being told whether something is safe or not that they can't work it out for themselves?

While I was in the library, an alarm went off. It was caused by someone somehow getting stuck in the paternoster lift.

The answer to my question is therefore "yes".
