I wrote this on 2nd May, 2020:
The George Cross is the UK's highest civilian award for gallantry. At the end of all this, how about we award it to the NHS?
The official name of the organisation would become the National Health Service, GC.
In the years to come, such an award would help future generations remember all that the NHS workers have done for us while putting their own lives at risk during this crisis.
Just an idea.
Today, the headlines tell me: Queen gives George Cross to NHS for staff's 'courage and dedication'.
I don't suppose my post would have been read by anyone in a position to make this award (although I did email my MP about it), but I'm nevertheless pleased to learn that my idea wasn't a bad one.
