Anecdote
We went to Castle Park in Colchester yesterday afternoon to watch a re-enactment of the Siege of Colchester from the second English Civil War.
It only had maybe 300 participants, if that — a tenth of the size of some of the re-enactments we've had in the past. As a result, we didn't see any members of the St John's Ambulance Brigade running into the battle and stretchering people off.
We left at half time (when there's a parlay between the two sides), because by then it was getting repetitive. Also, my wife was disappointed that, unlike the battles on TV, this one had no dragons. The cannon fire was pretty good, though — very loud, causing many families with small children to evacuate the hillside so we got a better view.
The English Civil War ended Roundheads 2, Cavaliers 0.
