Anecdote
When the drive-laying workers come across anything interesting beneath the surface, they dig it up and call it "treasure". They found two pieces of such treasure while digging a new drain in the back garden.
The one on the left is a quite pretty little glass bottle that might have held perfume or something. We'd maybe have known if the workers had dug up a stopper for it.
The one on the right is a container of some kind. Moulded into the bottom is "Regd. No. 829796". We'd maybe have known what it contained if the workers had dug up a stopper for it.
I suspect that any treasure actually worth anything would perhaps not have been presented to us.
