This morning, an email from Ancestry.com proudly announced a new breakdown of my ethnic background using the DNA sample I sent a few years back (although I suspect that an analysis of the family tree I uploaded may have helped).
They've also updated their "chromosome painter", which purports to be able to tell from which parent you got your DNA. Here's what it says for me:
So, which parent is Parent 1 and which is Parent 2?
My dad's family is almost entirely English, but he does have an Irish great-grandmother and a Welsh great-great grandmother.
My mother's mother is Scottish but the rest of her family is English for generations.
So, nice try Ancestry, but I can see why this is still in beta.
