Hog Roast

Anecdote

My wife and I went to the local pub for lunch today because they had a hog roast (basically pork in a bread roll). It took 90 minutes longer to cook than they were expecting, but we weren't in a hurry.

One of us wanted it with stuffing.

Neither of us wanted it with crackling.

Both of us wanted it with apple sauce.

We had quite a time explaining these three concepts to the waitress, but she started a new piece of paper and managed to record it. I could see what she had written: one hog roast with apple sauce and stuffing; one hog roast with apple sauce.

When it came she said "this is the one without the apple sauce" and gave it to my wife.

Both had stuffing.

Both had crackling.

One had apple sauce.

Oh well, they were only a fiver each so we didn't complain. The crackling was actually pretty good, but I can't stand the taste of sage so that rather spoiled it for me.

If we ever go there for a proper Sunday lunch, though, I'll need to be very careful that I like absolutely everything on the menu as there'll be no telling what will actually appear in front of me when it arrives.
