Bunny Hunt

Anecdote

It's the annual Easter Bunny hunt in West Bergholt.

This is that time of the year when members of the local knitting group, who have been working on making woollen Easter Bunnies all year round, place them around the village and sell maps to where they are at £1 each to benefit a local charity. This immediately causes a shift in the weather, so that the families who go out for walks bunny-hunting with their small children stay indoors instead.

OK, so the bunnies don't look much like bunnies, what with their pointed ears and such, but it's the thought that counts.

Unfortunately, some people take the idea of bunny-hunting rather too literally. Earlier this week, someone out on a walk found a shallow grave containing eight bunnies, probably collected by schoolchildren. Some adults, on the other hand, have thought "Ooh! Free bunnies!" and removed them.

So annoying is this that it made the local radio breakfast programme yesterday morning. Ironically, this probably brought more publicity for the charity than the bunny hunt itself did.

This seems like a major breakdown of society from the perspective of a sleepy English village, but at least we're only seeing woollen Easter Bunnies buried in shallow graves here.
