Open Knowledge

Anecdote

There's a relatively new charity called OKRE ("Open Knowledge across Research and Entertainment"), the purpose of which is to bring together people from the research industry, the entertainment industry and experts from the general public, the aim being to help audiences engage with ideas that shape society.

Anyway, I was on a Zoom panel (an "OKRE Salon") a couple of months ago, the topic of which was exploring how to avoid over-simplistic, good-versus-evil tropes in narratives. The other three panelists were somewhat more distinguished than me: Seyi Rhodes (Reporter and Investigative Journalist), Gill Webber (Executive Director of the Imperial War Museum Institute) and Rajesh Thind (Writer, Producer and Director). The chair was Kez Margrie (Commissioning Editor of CBBC).

The discussion was surprisingly interesting despite my involvement in it. You can watch all 38 minutes of it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP7q5at8T40&feature=youtu.be. If you want to see what else they discuss in salons, others are on the OKRE hub at https://okre.org/content-hub/.

This has been a shameless self-publicity post.
