Anecdote
The moon and Venus were arranged quite nicely this morning, as if they were attempting to inspire a flag.
Why yes, I do have absolutely no skill in taking photos of astronomical bodies. What annoys me the most about them is that they're much bigger when I look at them with the naked eye than when I take a photograph of them. If they're going to go all optical-illusion-of-size on me, why should I make the effort and try to mess around with my phone's camera settings so they look better?
That said, I wasn't expecting the earthshine to show nor for the crescent of light on Venus to be apparent. Take enough random photos and eventually you strike lucky...
