Anecdote
I had a 9am lecture this morning so aimed to get up at 7am. I don't trust my alarm clock, so I set it for 7:30am, but usually I wake up for 7am so don't need it.
This is why, when I looked at my alarm clock and saw it was 6:58am, I thought I may as well get up.
It wasn't 6:58am. It was 6:38am. I'd misread the reading.
Damn, I could have had another 20 minutes of sleep.
I also have 9am lectures on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but my wife goes to London on those days so her alarm goes off at 6:10am. Sadly, her alarm clock is very trustworthy so I'll definitely be missing 50 minutes of sleep tomorrow and the day after.
Not having to get up by any particular time is one of the things I'm looking forward to when I retire. Mind you, I'd trade it for not having to get up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet.
