Nobel

Anecdote

Oh. It seems that as of yesterday I can claim to have met two Nobel Prize winners.

I met Geoffrey Hinton at an AI event when I was doing my PhD in the early 1980s. I think he was at Cambridge at the time.

I met Demis Hassabis in the Great Eastern pub at Liverpool Street, when he was working in the games industry and we were being hooked up by someone who wanted to use money from the film industry to finance games. The money didn't come through, so nothing came of it.

They were rather shoehorned into their respective Nobel prize categories (Physics and Chemistry), but at least it shows that the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has both autonomy and flexibility.
