Lib Dem

Weird

Here are the two most prominent photos in the election material I received from the Liberal Democrat candidate in our constituency:

What worries me about the one on the left, which dominates the front page of the flier, is that this must be the most flattering of the ones taken. What worries me about the one on the right, which is on an inside page, is that she looks as if she has a gun in her pocket.

Well, she got my vote, anyway — unlike the Conservative candidate, who sent me yet another plea for my vote through the actual postal system. He's getting desperate.

Some 20% of the votes this time round are postal, therefore they've already been cast. This means that 20% of the money spent on the campaign at this stage is wasted. I believe that the uptick in postal votes (which are normally more like 10%) is because people don't want to have to send off for voter ID.

Voted ID was introduced ostensibly to reduce electoral fraud, but actually to try to eat into Labour's vote as younger people tend to vote Labour more than Conservative. It actually put off older voters, so the Conservatives shot themselves in the foot there, and postal votes are far more susceptible to fraud anyway.

The Prime Minister must be hoping that some political equivalent of Jude Bellingham is going to bicycle-kick the election into extra time, but it's not going to happen.
