I've no idea who the Horks are, but the next village along is Great Horkesley so maybe it's to do with them.
This reminds me of the story of a pub owner who, in an effort to get people talking, put up a blackboard for people to write their comments on. He split it into three sections, headed Sport, Politics and Sex, then left the locals to write their thoughts on it. When he checked after closing time, all that was written on it was "up the reds", once in each column.
