Anecdote
I was chatting to a student yesterday prior to the defence of his Master's dissertation (or "project demonstration and oral" as we rather more mundanely call it). I mentioned that after beginning his education at age 4 or 5, this was the last event in his academic career. After this, he could go out into the big world and put all that knowledge to work.
He said he didn't know what jobs he'd be applying for yet, but he was glad that from now on there would be no more deadlines in his life.
I tried to let him down gently.
