On the left, the rods disassembled as we found them (they were taped together). On the right, the rods assembled into a single unit 80cm long exactly.
We have no idea what these rods are for, but if I ever decide I need a piece of 4mm-diameter steel for something and take a hacksaw to one of them, doubtless we'll discover what it was for within a week.
