Anecdote
I drove to Yorkshire and back with my younger daughter yesterday, to visit my folks. It's not quite 500 miles, and I drove rather than walked, but still, at times on the way back walking would have been quicker. I'm particularly thinking of when we were stuck in traffic in a temperature of minus 7 because of a "stranded vehicle" that turned out to be stranded because it had been concertined between two lorries.
