Anecdote
I received Age of Empires IV for Christmas from my elder daughter, so of course have been playing it.
Hmm, well there must be a reason why there's no pause-to-give-orders mode for solo play, but I don't know what it is. I don't even appear to be able to slow it down, so am constantly clicking at speed on different parts of the mini-map to recruit new units then move them to where I want them. It was possible to stop time in Age of Empires III, but it isn't in Age of Empires IV. Play is rather more frantic than I was hoping it would be.
This is one of those areas where incorporating settings to help accessibility could help people who don't have impairments but who want an easier time of it.
I can't say I'm really enjoying playing as the Normans to defeat the Anglo-Saxons, either, as I was always on the side of the latter rather than the former.
