Anecdote
I've managed to get all my marking finished. It turns out that merely by changing the quality and quantity of the feedback provided to students, and doing nothing but marking whenever I wasn't in a meeting, I could make the deadline. It wasn't as if I had anything else to do over the whole of the Easter long weekend anyway (I could eat Easter eggs in parallel).
I was also helped by the fact that one in six students didn't hand anything in.
For CE217, 84/102 students submitted work to be marked, of which 8 came after the deadline.
For CE317, 53/59 students submitted work to be marked, of which 1 came after the deadline.
For CE817, 4/6 students submitted work to be marked, of which 0 came after the deadline.
Remarkably, out of the 141 assignments I marked, only two contained mis-spellings of the word "lose" or similar. These were among the first ten I marked, so I was rather worried that the practice might be more prevalent this year than usual. Fortunately for my overall Key Performance Indicator ratings, this was not the case.
Phew! I have some of my life back now.
