I've just finished reading the Science Fiction novel Hard to Be a God, by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. I read it because it has a title similar to that of a book I've been working on about the relationship between the realities of virtual worlds and the reality we live in (How to Be a God; the title is probably the only goodness it has going for it).
Hmm. Well I have to say, readers of SF in the USSR in 1963 were a lot more capable of critical thinking than are most of the purveyors of various forms of absolutism that I encounter in the media (social or otherwise) these days.
