Anecdote
I bought these cards over the weekend.
They're in such good condition because they're reproductions. Normally, I don't buy reproductions but I'm a sucker for Victorian end-of-empire era history so I got them anyway. Also, they were super cheap.
Now to head to Wikipedia to find out who the blazes these people are...
