Anecdote
As a result of some kind of fast-acting lurgy that hit me on Tuesday, I'm left with a need to blow my nose every five minutes plus a cough. My pharmacist daughter recommended a particular cough medicine that's alone in actually working, so I took it.
It tastes vile.
Either the vile taste is evidence that it does have an active ingredient in it, or it's there to trick the patient into thinking it does, or it's intended to frighten the patient into not coughing because they know that if they do then they'll have to take more of the medicine.
Whatever, it's working. Chalk up another victory for science!
