Anecdote
I knew there was a problem with the weighing machine in Sainsbury's by the pile of stickers next to it. It took me ten minutes to weigh and price up a single red onion. I must have added 15 stickers to the pile as the machine interpreted my touchscreen commands variously as mushrooms, a white cabbage, a different kind of mushroom, courgettes, carrots and something beginning with Q. There was a queue of four people behind me when I finally persuaded the machine to give me a sticker for my red onion.
It came to 9p.
