Anecdote
I've just discovered my Honorary Professor title expired in July, so I can't refer to myself as Professor Bartle until it's renewed. Fortunately, my Visiting Professor title was still intact so I wasn't inadvertently assuming false title, but as I've asked to be taken off the Visiting Professor list (it costs the School money to have me on it) I'll have to revert to being Dr Bartle for a while.
