Anecdote
I had an email from a student called Cristian asking for a meeting. The student was supposed to be attending my lectures, but because his timetable didn't show them had missed some. I gave him the location and time of the lectures and said we could have the meeting after.
So, I'm giving the lecture and part-way through a new student enters. He finds a seat and sits down. The other students look surprised, but I say it's OK, he's had timetable problems.
After the lecture, I approach the student and ask, "Are you Cristian?".
He wasn't, and thought I was asking his religion.
Hmm. Of such innocent errors, appearances in front of disciplinary panels can be made. Fortunately, he saw the funny side of it so I live to lecture again.
