It's the campus cat. I'd seen it wandering around a couple of hours earlier; it must have followed someone into the building and then have been too small to set off the detector to open the doors to get out.
I put on my gloves (it's in need of a good wash) and carried it out to freedom and a temperature of 20 degrees less than inside.
