It's great that the Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced there's going to be a government-funded Turing Institute founded. I'm a big fan of Turing. However, I'm not sure that making it "focus on new ways of collecting, organising and analysing large sets of data" is entirely in keeping with Turing's interests.
We'd never have got this when Margaret Thatcher was leader of the Conservatives. I distinctly remember her remark, "the lady's not for Turing".
