Anecdote
My father-in-law asserts that cacti move away from the sun. He would rotate the cactus in our kitchen so it leaned towards the sun in order to make it go away from it and straighten up. The rest of the world asserts that cacti move towards the sun.
As he's stopped visiting us as much these days, we've managed to keep the cactus in the same position. When he has visited, we've turned it back as soon as he's gone. Here's the result:
Father-in-law 0, rest of the world 1.
Luckily, there are no laws against cactus abuse.
