The town where I grew up used to have the distinction of being the largest (by some margin) in Britain that didn't have an A-class road running through it — but not any more! My dad informs me that the B1244 has now been formally renamed the A1035.
The road is exactly the same as before, narrow with consecutive right-angled turns through the centre of villages, but it's now an A-class road instead of a B-class road.
Thus are problems solved in today's England.
