Anecdote
While gradually clearing out my home office, I moved some of my comics around. I have a full run of Knights of the Dinner Table but hardly anything else. I did find a handful of other comics in my collection that I'd got for free in various places:
It turns out they're worth about £2 each on eBay. So, the question I have to ask myself is: do I put them on eBay or not? If I do, it costs me an insertion fee and they may not sell (they sell in the USA but no-one is going to pay the postage from here to there). Also, it will take me a while and I'll only get £14 back. On the other hand, if I don't then I'm throwing away £14.
Hmm. Maybe I'll just give them to the local comic shop. I'd hate to see it close, and I'd rather they had them than the paper recyclers.
Of course, if I did throw them away then everyone else's would be marginally more valuable. That's why my white-border Wesley Crusher Star Trek CCG card is worth £2 when others of the same rarity are 50p.
