Anecdote

The limousine driver who took me from the airport to the hotel on Monday chatted about how he used to be a driver for a Saudi prince. He used to go to England regularly for horse races, and told a few anecdotes about his life as driver to Saudi royalty.

One of the other consultants also had a chatty driver. He used to be a driver for a Saudi prince. He used to go to England regularly for horse races, and told a few anecdotes about his life as driver to Saudi royalty.

We were wondering if we'd get the same driver for the return trip. We did — but it wasn't my driver. It was the same driver my colleague had, but not the one I had.

I now suspect that the limousine drivers for this particular company are all trained in anecdotes about how they used to be a driver for a Saudi prince and used to go to England regularly for horse races, whereas in truth they've probably never left the USA.
