Anecdote
It was raining as I drove my wife to the station this morning for her daily commute to London. There were a number of puddles on our road, but none too big — they were just a few inches across, where the water was pooling before draining off to the side.
One, however, was not a puddle. I found, when I drove over it, that it was actually a pothole. I felt a juddering on the tyre, and a huge splash of water was thrown up to the right.
Simultaneously, the boy who delivers our paper was riding past on his bicycle.
Oh well, I'm sure he was probably soaking wet from the rain anyway.
