Outburst
Driving back from yet another wasted Sunday afternoon's trip to Newmarket, I saw two sets of signs on the A14 a few miles apart. Both imposed a 50mph speed limit with no discernable purpose. Nothing unusual about that, of course: there are plenty of largely-ignored road signs imposing arbitrary speed limits on traffic without any seeming cause.
These signs were different, though; these signs came with another sign that explained why there was a speed limit.
The signs read: Speed limit for safety reasons.
Uh? Aren't all speed limits for safety reasons? What's the point of telling us something that tells us nothing?! I want to know what the safety reasons are, not that there merely are some!
