Anecdote
In with the clippings of my grandad I mentioned yesterday was this photo of me dated 17/7/74, when I was 14:
Arrrgh! Girl hair, girl shirt — thank gawd it was the 1970s and everyone looked like that or I'd have been bullied mercilessly.
(Note to anyone else in my family who has the same photo: yes, I cropped it to remove my brother sitting next to me, as he's wearing a brown jumper over a plain shirt and has boy hair, and would therefore completely undermine the above assertion).
What's really scary isn't the 1970s fashions, though: it's the fact that I could take my face off that picture, patch it onto a photo of my elder daughter at that age, and you wouldn't be able to tell it wasn't her.
