After discussing Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy with my wife and younger daughter this morning, I realised that I was the only one of us who had realised that the reason George Smiley bought some new glasses after being sacked at the start of the film wasn't simply because he was looking at the world in a new way; it was also so we could tell which scenes in the movie were flashbacks.
Hmm, that certainly explains why I had an easier time of following the plot.
