Random Dot Stereogram

Anecdote

I wrote a program to create random-dot stereograms. Input: a series of letters. Output: a pair of pictures you can visually resolve to get the letters on top of each other (first highest).

Here's the output:



That looks a little faded because I wrote the program in 1982. The two letters it shows are R and G (my and my wife's initials). I kept this printout in a box with a load of old papers. Today, I went through the box saving some things, shredding some things, recycling some things.

I wrote that program just for fun. Today, it would be a final-year project.

Times change...
