Anecdote
Oh, my younger daughter heard on the grapevine (ie. theschool bus) why it is we lost the Internet last week.
It was stolen. Some thieves took dug up the copper cable and absconded with it. They had to use a mechanical digger to get to it, too. I guess that the enhanced security that the railways have put in place to stop people from stealing signalling cables has necessitated a change in tactics.
I'd have thought there was more metal in a melted-down JCB than in a melted-down couple of miles of phone cable, though.
