Anecdote
I tried the coffee in the hotel this morning.
OK, so this is my theory. Somewhere on the outskirts of Magdeburg is a coffee-making factory. At 5 o'clock every morning it fills a large tanker with coffee, and this vehicle drives around Magdeburg supplying coffee to every establishment that requires it. Thus, when it comes to drink the stuff, it's several hours old and powerful enough to stain brass.
