Anecdote
I'm good enough at French to understand it, but I'm hopeless at generating it.
It came as no surprise to me today, therefore, when asking for a ticket for my 19-year-old daughter, that I managed to say the word for young, jeune, as the word for yellow, jaune. I asked for two adults, one yellow and one free.
The man at the ticket desk certainly found it amusing, especially as he spoke English.
I once told a shopkeeper in Cannes I was buying a present for my mummy (manan) instead of my mother (mère).
French: it's like some kind of foreign language.
