In recent years, when people at conferences got so caught up in their vision of the future that they'd say "everyone" would be using their Second Life rip-off within 3 years, I would remind them (courtesy of a statistic I picked up from Matt Mihaly) that half the world's population has never made a phone call, let alone used the Internet. "Everyone" is a lot of people.
I can't do that any more, though, because according to the UN over half the world's population now pays to use a mobile phone (er, not the same phone, I expect).
Only a quarter have access to the Internet, though, so that's still some way short of "everyone".
