Anecdote
My elder daughter has her final A-level exam this afternoon. Then, she has three months of complete freedom until she goes to university in the Autumn.
I remember being in the same situation myself, 30 years ago. I recall thinking that this would be the last time in my entire life when I could do whatever I wanted to do, simply because I wanted to do it.
So what did I do? Well, I wrote a 6-part, 30-minute episode comedy thriller for TV, in pencil.
Ah, freedom.
Maybe, once I retire, I'll have it again. Of course, I have to reach retiring age first...
I'd tell my daughter not to waste these three months, her last summer of childhood, but obviously that doesn't make sense: wasting them is entirely the point.
