Not What I Want to Hear

Outburst

ASDA has been running a series of TV commercials accompanied by the song It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.

Gah! Just writing the words down has got the tune popped into my head! Damn, but I hate that advert! It starts up, and before you can turn the TV over you're singing the song mentally. I don't even know how it goes beyond the first two lines, but it's one of those irritating, sticky tunes you can't easily get rid of.

My wife doesn't understand my problem, but she is immune to advertisements: absolutely none of them impact on her memory. I can make a comment on something someone said in a TV commercial half a second earlier, and she won't know what I'm talking about. My younger daughter, however, is as crazed by this tune as I am. I'm sure we're not alone in our annoyance at it — it's almost designed to be aggravating. Augh! I'm considering shopping at ASDA again just so I can make a point of boycotting the place.

Jeez, I'm still singing it internally, it has got to go!
