Anecdote
So, I'm staying in the Hotel Grand here in Lodz. To be fair, it actually is grand, in an end-of-the-19th-century kind of way. Here's the view down the corridor outside my room:
Sadly, the camera doesn't quite capture how gloomy it looks. The floorboards all creak, except on the staircase which is made of stone and doesn't have floorboards. There, the carpet creaks. It is, however, quite pretty:
There's a cute attempt to hide a door in the decor there, which for some reason doesn't quite come off:
Hmm, maybe the thing to do would be to paint the door frame, too?
My favourite part is the dining room, which is a riot of green and pink:
It has cherubs!
And a balcony!

I have to admit, I do like a good metal fob.
