Anecdote
Augh! Why do I always do it? Why? Why?
Just before Christmas, I bought some Early Grey tea from the Covent Garden Tea Company. Yesterday, I ran out of Twinings and started on this new stuff. It's way too floral. It tastes nothing like bergamot ought to taste. Yet I knew that this would probably be the case when I bought it, I just ignored all my past experiences in the blindly optimistic hope that this time it would be different, except it wasn't.
Oh well, at least it's only Earl Grey tea I do this with. Some people have the misfortune to do it with boy/girlfriends.
This is what it says on the back of the CGTC tea bags:
What's that? "Allow the tea to infuse for 4 to 5 minutes"? Are they some kind of bonkers?! If you leave Earl Grey that long it's going to have scud floating on the top and the ability to etch glass.
Still, I know that the next time I make myself a cup of Earl Grey I'm going to leave it that long, and I know I'm going to tip it straight down the sink after the first mouthful...
