OK, I managed to get connected to the net...
The hotel's Internet connection does require an ethernet cable, but there's one already attached to the hub. It just didn't look like it was a cable until I thought "Hmm, 4 wires coming out of the back of this box, how come it needs that many?" and traced them all back. One had an ethernet connector at the end.
OK, so I had to flick a switch on the wall to give the unit power, and there's no power socket close enough that I can use my laptop from the mains, but I'm not too fussed about that.
