You Phenism

Comment

I got an interesting email from Lotusman just before I went away on Friday, commenting on the term shed loads. This is an unknown turn of phrase in the USA, and he wondered if it might perhaps have begun life as a euphamism for shit load.

This sounds eminently plausible to me. The fact that UK sheds are just the right size to fill a void in quantity space seems to have been what made it stick here; workshop-sized US sheds would give a quantity that sounded like "a garage load" in amount, which is too much. I don't know whether "shed load" is used in Australia or not, but since I don't know how big Aussie sheds are either it wouldn't help me if I did.
