Anecdote
I was in Sainsbury's today, waiting patiently while a woman bought everything off the cake counter so I could ask the assistant there to slice some bread for me, and I noticed a bunch of "Price Check" signs hanging prominently around.
"Jacob's Creek chardonnay £5.94, Tesco £5.94, price check!"
"free range eggs 98p, Tesco 98p, price check!"
"Mr Kipling 6 cherry bakewells £1.04, Tesco £1.04, price check!"
"Ambrosia devon custard 61p, Tesco 61p, price check!"
What are they trying to say here? "Shop at Sainsbury's, it's no cheaper than Tesco's"?
