Rant
I went to Windows Update yesterday and took the custom update option. This provided me with five non-critical updates, which I installed.
It's taken me two hours this morning to get back the sound on my computer and to reinstall the default path for Windows' command prompt. Gawd knows what other little gems I'm going to uncover over the next few days. The first problem was caused by C-Media's WDM Audio Driver, which decided it was appropriate for my sound card but wasn't. The second problem was caused by Quicktime, which proudly overwrote my PATH environment variable with one of its own choosing.
It beats me why these were classified as non-critical updates, because I'm certainly critical of them...
