Anecdote

My grandfather's matchbox collection, which is currently sitting in the attic acting as insulation, contains large numbers of matchboxes that look pretty well the same (but are different because e.g. the average number of contents stated is different) but it also has ones used as advertising or souvenirs. Here's an example.

This is the annoying thing about his collection. OK, so few people collect matchbox labels now, and few collected them in the past come to that; you can buy an album with a thousand matchbox labels in it for £15 right now on eBay. This one seems as if it should be fairly rare, though. Is it? If it is, how much is it worth? 5p? 50p? £5? I have no way of knowing except by putting it up for sale — and I have to do that 20,000 times.

Well, it'll give me something to do when I retire.
