Oddly-Shaped Coins

Anecdote

Here are some oddly-shaped coins that my dad retrieved from gas meters. There aren't so many of these, because the meters were expecting them to be round or 50p-shaaped. I'm amazed the one in the bottom-right was ever accepted.

I expect that the thinking behind 9-cornered, 11-cornered and 13-cornered coins is either to prevent forgery or to boost the local garment industry by wearing holes in pockets.
