Change of Train

Miscellaneous

I got on the 9:12 from Colchester to Liverpool Street this morning, leaving from platform 4. Signal problems meant its departure was delayed, though. Half an hour later, we were told that it had been cancelled, so we all got off. This was a shame, because if it had arrived half an hour late we would have been entitled to compensation.

Within a minute, we were told that the next train to London was the 9:40 now standing at platform 4. Yes, the very train we'd just got off. We all got back on again and sat in our previous seats. The 9:40 train could then leave on time.

There's a word for this kind of relabelling: "scam".
